Blog Journal 9

This is going to be the most spiteful I'll ever get in a blog post. I hate distance learning, whether it be online classes or that whole covid fiasco! In this class we often talk about how AI can be used in the class, and I also see the conversation often coming up on whether or not AI can ever replace teachers. One of the main factors as to why I believe that AI could never replace humans is the fact that an in person relationship with student is so important. I truly do believe that it allows us to learn better because of that relationsip, which is only proven because kids always say they learned best from the "good" teacher and hated the "bad" teachers class. I feel like distance or online learning is something AI might as well do. I guess zoom classes aren't the worst ever, but it still doesn't engage my brain enough as much as in-person. Zoom is what I experienced the most, and although I believe it certeinaly accomplishes what it sets out to do, the fact that its through a screen does not change. I haven't expeirenced google meeting...which I would like to, but I'm also googles biggest hyperman, so take my words with a grain of salt.

The MDPI Blog post “What Are Open Educational Resources?” talks about how OER are free learning materials that anyone can use, change, share, and aren't under any copyright laws. These can be things like online lectures, slides, videos, or textbooks that anyone can access without a cost. It goes on to explain that OER help make education more affordable and give teachers more freedom to customzie their lessons. It does mention a few downsides, like how some resources might not be high quality or how people need internet access to use them. I believe these two are honestly meaningless though...because a teacher can either ignore the low quality OER's or even improve them, using them as a foundation instead. I also agree that having internet is important, and this may sound rude, but a group of people is an entirely different issue itself, not some fault of OER's. I simply think its good to have resources for teachers out there, and it can only help. We already have tons of different services that have teachers use to pay for worksheets, so I don't see why we can't have some sort of open source page for them.

The PowerPoint assignment wasn't bad at all; I think my two Spanish classes prepared me with PowerPoint skills for life. I imagine most people didn't like recording themselves, but, well, this is a class based on education, so they should probably just get over it. I actually like presenting on things I care about, which is why I talked about my Peru trip (totally not because I just presented at a leadership conference and the info was fresh in my head...). This probably sounds a bit too positive, but I seriously don't think the PowerPoint assignment could be improved, and I also don't think anything is wrong with it. It's a basic assignment that is literally an entire foundation for teachers across the world; it's not meant to be complicated or easy, it's however you make of it. When it comes to my own PowerPoint, though, probably the design. I thought I had something going with the green boxes, but now looking back, I think it's a bit stupid.
